Humans can’t walk in straight lines. If there’s no fixed point of reference, we just walk in circles and inevitably get lost. Nobody knows why, but researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics have confirmed it in several experiments.
There’s a great video on the site that illustrates this point. It’s really very interesting.

Totally explains my whole life.
I can wake up at 7, no matter how early I went to bed the night before, and still be ridiculously tired until 4 or 5 PM when I finally start to get going. I can be just hitting my peak at midnight and be really bummed because I have to go force myself to fall asleep because I have to wake up at 7 again.
Look at me now, it’s 12:37 - my alarms will start at 6:30ish. I’ll probably still be wide awake an hour from now, lying in my bed and pleading with my brain to shut off so I can sleep.
