REMINDER, IDIOTS: IT’S 112 DEGREES OUTSIDE

So, /begin rant:

Today, my brother and I broke into a stranger’s car.

Here’s the story.

We were visiting an aquarium with my mother. It’s rather large and took about 3 hours for us to wander through.

When we came outside, it was 112 degrees. HOT! OMG, the air felt like it wrapped around you and just clung to you, it was so hot.

So on our way out of the aquarium, we see a couple going in with two tiny (TINY) pups that looked like possibly Bichons. (For those of you that don’t know: Bichon Frise )

We’re getting in the car when we see the woman walking the dogs back out to their car. Apparently, (and obviously, duh) they aren’t allowed inside the aquarium.

I pause and stare. Surely, this woman isn’t going to leave these tiny pups in the car while she and her man wander through the aquarium. Surely not. Not in 112 degree heat.

Surely, SURELY, she isn’t that stupid.

I slowly walk to the car, asking my mom if this woman is really about to do what I think she’s about to do.

She totally does. She is seen moments later walking back inside without two little white dogs.

So mom and I immediately flag down the aquarium parking patrol guy, because HELL NO. You are not leaving dogs in a turned off car in 112 degrees.

He reports it to the people inside but we called the non-emergency police line anyway, just in case.

The police dispatcher says “Well, are the windows cracked?”

O.o

Seriously? You think that’s going to make a difference in 112 degree heat?

Anyway, after the phone call to the police and with the guy inside trying to page the owners, we leave to go get lunch.

Well… I’m still bothered by the patrol guy’s lack of enthusiasm (perhaps, not the best word but I can’t think of the right one) about this situation.

So, after looking up how long dogs can survive and what happens to them when locked in a hot car (Which by the way talked about the seriousness of them being locked in a car in 80 degree heat AND IT’S FRICKING 112!!) I freaked out.

If you know me at all, you’ll know that if an animal is involved, I’ll cry at the drop of a hat.

My over-active imagination is picturing these little dogs keeling over dead and I just started crying, and my brother said we needed to go back and check again.

When we got back to the car, it was still there, the dogs were still inside, and nothing had changed.

I was not happy. At all.

We called 911 to get someone out there. My brother wanted to bust the windows out and get the dogs, if that’s what it took. They were not longer jumping around and only one was even yelping any longer.

Finally a guy from the aquarium came out and we were hoping he’d get the dogs out. Turns out he had a device to measure the temperature inside the car.

It was at 128 degrees inside that car.

He told my brother they also called the police and a cop was supposedly only a few blocks away. The man then went back inside.

Well, we’d had enough.

My brother told me to see if my arm would fit through the window they had left open a bit. It did but I couldn’t reach the door’s lock, so he tried and he did manage to get the door unlocked.

The alarm went off for a bit.

We got the two dogs out and mom, who had gone for water, came back and we made sure the dogs had plenty of water.

There was a pick behind this car that had been watching us, thinking I’d locked my keys in my car. When they saw the dogs, they asked if I wanted to let them sit on her lap in front of her a/c vents, so we did that while we watered them.

These poor dogs gulped down the water. They were incredibly thirsty.

Finally, maybe 10 minutes or so later, I would guess, the cop showed up. After another couple of minutes, the couple came out and saw what was going on.

The cop talked to them and got their information and then eventually returned their dogs to them and they left. He then took our information and that of the people in the truck, and then he left, as well.

Those poor TINY puppies had been in that hot car for nearly half an hour by the time we finally managed to get them out.

Any longer and they could’ve had irreparable damage done to their organs and brains.

They were not from out of state and unfamiliar with our weather either.

So, I would just like to remind everyone that if you leave a dog in your car in 112 heat and go do your own shit, you’re a horrible frickin’ person and I can’t even put into words how much I hate you.

Second, your beloved pets will die.

GO HOME. Do not think, “Well, if we’re fast we can at least enjoy some US time while they wait in the car.”

NO.

GO HOME, you selfish-ass frickin’ morons. Come back another day when you aren’t traveling with your pets.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

AND THAT DEATH GLARE YOU GAVE ME WHILE THE COP WAS TALKING TO YOU? I FREAKING RELISH IT. THAT’S WHY I REFUSED TO LOOK AWAY.

I will not be stared down by the likes of you. YOU LOOK AWAY AND YOU DO IT IN SHAME!

/end rant.

Today was a rough day.

Generally speaking, if its so hot that YOU wouldn’t want to be left in a closed, non-running car, you probably shouldn’t...
